South Town's comprehensive strategy unfolds - substantial investments on the horizon

The historic city of Anklam, Germany, is gearing up for an exciting transformation with the Hanseviertel development, formerly known as Südstadt. The project, currently valued at over 300,000 euros, has a new master plan approved by the city council.

However, a setback has emerged due to the damage sustained by the former Wehrmacht prison on the outskirts of the city. Recent storms and rain have caused significant damage to the roof and windows, necessitating immediate repairs to ensure the building's continued safe use.

The city administration has emphasised the urgency of these repairs, as they fear losing annual funding if the necessary actions are not taken promptly. The basic renovation measures for the former Wehrmacht prison include the repair of the roof and windows.

The Hanseviertel development is set to receive substantial support from urban development promotion funding, with two-thirds of the construction costs earmarked for "Wohngebiet Südstadt". The total net construction costs for the project are estimated at approximately 1.36 million euros, with significant investments planned for the development of the residential area.

The city of Anklam is working in collaboration with the municipal redevelopment carrier, BiG Stadtbau, on the planning and construction measures for Hanseviertel. The tender documents for the planned measures at the Wehrmacht prison have already been prepared, and the planning services for the development of Hanseviertel will be tendered soon.

In addition to the repair of the former Wehrmacht prison, the master plan includes the renovation and modernization of residential blocks in the Hanseviertel, the construction of a skate park at the Hamburger Ring, the redesign of the inner courtyard at the Hamburger Ring, and the design of further outdoor facilities in Südstadt.

The transformation of the former Wehrmacht prison will see it become a learning, cultural, and meeting place for the community. Initial measures for this transformation are already planned, but due to funding-related delays, the timeline and estimated costs for the renovation and transformation are currently unavailable.

For the latest updates on the Hanseviertel development and the progress of the former Wehrmacht prison's transformation, it is recommended to keep an eye on local government or heritage organisation announcements.

  1. The Wehrmacht prison's restoration is crucial for the continued funding of the city, as it is planned to be converted into a learning, cultural, and community meeting place, which is a part of the broader Hanseviertel home-improvement project focusing on lifestyle adjustments and home-and-garden renovations in Südstadt.
  2. Amid the urban development and transformation underway, including home-improvement measures for the Hanseviertel development, the city administration, in collaboration with BiG Stadtbau, is also addressing the urgent need for repairs to the Wehrmacht prison, ensuring its status as a significant feature of the home-and-garden and lifestyle enhancements within the scope of the project.
