Study reveals that 40% of pet owners express a desire for technological advancements enabling them to communicate with their furry companions

In a survey conducted by Pet Drugs Online, a leading UK supplier of veterinary medication and pet care products, over 2,000 pet parents shared their hopes for the future of pet products. The results reveal a growing interest in innovative solutions to enhance pet care and wellbeing.

Sarah Page-Jones, head of veterinary compliance at Pet Drugs Online, believes there are many opportunities for future pet care innovation. She suggests that the priorities pet owners have for their companions may follow the trends in human health, with mental health becoming a significant focus.

One area where innovation is eagerly anticipated is in reducing pet anxiety. An impressive 29% of the surveyed pet owners expressed a desire for technology that can help in this regard. Another 40% are hopeful for technology that translates pets' barks and meows to human language, which could open up new avenues for communication with our furry friends.

Interestingly, 13% of the pet parents surveyed would like to see AI animals as companions for their pets. While Sarah Page-Jones does not discuss this specific technology, she does mention the possibility of AI pet-sitters in the future.

Other desired innovations include devices that automatically pick up pet waste (34%), pet beds that adjust temperature based on the pet's feelings (26%), and smart home appliances controlled by pets' barks and meows (14%).

Remarkably, if given the opportunity, 20% of pet parents would ask their pets about their physical health, while 17% would inquire about their happiness. This suggests a growing interest in understanding and improving pets' quality of life.

The survey also indicates a desire for more practical solutions, such as public transport designed specifically for pets and their owners (13%).

It's clear that pet parents are eager for more innovation, especially in pet health. With advancements in technology and a growing understanding of pet needs, the future of pet care looks promising.
