In the heart of Nordhorn, a gathering of female politicians and interested women took place recently, as part of the ongoing "A Glass" exchange format. The meeting, titled "Gender Planning," focused on the topic of gender-fair building.

Hosted by Anja Milewski, the city's equal opportunities officer, and featuring Milena Schauer, Nordhorn's city building director, as an expert, the discussion provided a platform for women from politics and the local community to share ideas and learn about gender-fair building practices.

Milewski introduced the topic, setting the stage for a thoughtful and engaging conversation. Schauer presented current building and housing projects in Nordhorn, demonstrating how aspects of gender-fair urban planning are taken into account.

The main topic of the meeting, "Gender Planning," emphasizes the importance of creating buildings that are inclusive and cater to the needs of all genders. This approach ensures a more equitable cityscape, where everyone feels safe and comfortable.

Participants included four current councilwomen, an honorary councilwoman, representatives from the SPD, CDU, and Green parties, and other politically interested women from Nordhorn. The meeting took place at "Zwischenzeit" in the community center of the Kreuzkirche on Van-Delden-Straße.

Anja Milewski also briefly discussed current topics from the equal opportunities office, with a focus on upcoming offers around the topic of cycling. The popular cycling course for women from all over the world will resume during the autumn holidays.

On September 15th, an event titled "Experiencing Safety" exclusively for women in cooperation with the police will take place. This event aims to promote safety and security for women in the city.

For those interested in future "A Glass" events, politically interested women can contact Anja Milewski at her email address to receive invitations. The next "A Glass" event is scheduled for Friday, January 30, 2026, at 7 pm, with the municipal gallery as the host.

Gallery director Dr. Thomas Niemeyer will give a thematic input at the next event. The city of Nordhorn provides information about all offers on its website, making it easy for everyone to stay informed and get involved.

On a recent occasion, a women's cycling tour was scheduled as part of the city's cycling challenge on September 9th at 5 pm. The city of Nordhorn continues to prioritize initiatives that promote gender equality and encourage women's participation in various aspects of city life.
