Thriving Haven Showcased: Heikendorf Displaying Prosperity
Strut Your Green Thumbs: Open Garden Action on June 14-15!
For all you gardening enthusiasts, mark your calendars! On June 14 and 15, you'll have a golden chance to roam around lush green retreats in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg. It's the "Offener Garten" (Open Garden) action, where over 200 charming gardens—mostly private—will open their gates to curious visitors. Around 40 of these gardens are making their debut this year!
From quaint courtyard gardens to sprawling landscape gardens, there's something for everyone. Don't forget to check out allotment gardens, shared community spots, natural ecosystems, specialist gardens featuring exotic collectibles, and business nurseries with show gardens—all brimming with floral diversity and innovative designs.
Meet the garden's caretakers, pick their brain on gardening tips, and swap plant cuttings over some coffee. These locals are eager to share their experiences, anecdotes, and secrets on making their garden oasis bloom!
Did you know that the museum garden of the Heikendorf Art Museum will join the gathering? Get a taste of its captivating beauty during the main weekend.
On June 14, drop by between 2-4 pm, and on June 15, from 11 am to 12:30 pm and 3-4 pm. Museum garden volunteers will be there to answer your questions and engage in stimulating conversations.
This enchanting sanctuary once belonged to the home of painter Heinrich Blunck and his wife Käthe. When Käthe devotedly excelled at the gardening up until the 1990s, this mini paradise was born—a place bustling with ornamental plants, shrubs, small lawns, sculptures, and benches, turning the museum into a relaxing, tranquil haven for visitors.
Remember, museum entry fees apply to visit the garden, and voluntary donations for maintenance are warmly welcomed. The museum garden will be accessible during the museum's regular opening hours on the Offener Garten weekend: Thursdays to Saturdays from 2-5 pm, Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.
For more information about the participating gardens and Open Garden weekend times, visit www.offenergarten.de. Want a printed guide?
