Titanic Fan's Apartment Transforms into Life-Size Diorama
Sarah Boll, a 38-year-old model and broker, has transformed her Chinatown apartment into a stunning, life-size Titanic-themed diorama. The immersive space is a labour of love for Boll, who has watched the iconic movie over 500 times and created various side projects dedicated to the ship.
Boll's apartment is a meticulous recreation of the Titanic, with each room transporting visitors to a different part of the ill-fated vessel. The entryway is crowded with brochures advertising the ship's voyage, and a portrait of Captain Edward Smith welcomes guests. Metallic foil pools in the corners of the living room, reminiscent of the ship's opulent decor.
The living room is a faithful reproduction of the first-class Veranda Cafe. Black strips adorn the walls, compass-rose tiles cover the floor, and a potted palm and ivy complete the scene. Boll's bedroom is a cozy cabin, featuring ornate wall panels and a trompe l'oeil porthole casting a blue glow.
The second bedroom is an underwater diorama called the Sunken Room. Navy tulle, mirrored flooring, and ship fragments swinging from the ceiling create an eerie, yet captivating atmosphere. A tribute to the Titanic's grand staircase on A-Deck stands near the front door, although without the stairs themselves. The main bathroom is filled with Titanic-related items, including a life-size cutout of Leo DiCaprio, various awards, and a model of the OceanGate submersible.
Boll's dedication to her Titanic theme is evident in every detail. She plans to host a costume party this Saturday, after which she will dismantle the theme to make way for her next immersive makeover - The Wizard of Oz. Despite the impending change, Boll's Titanic apartment will be remembered as a remarkable tribute to the ship and its passengers.
