Two Whole Foods Markets Unveiled Within a Fortnight
Whole Foods Expands Presence with New Stores in St. Charles, Illinois, and Miami, Florida
Whole Foods Market has expanded its footprint with the opening of new stores in St. Charles, Illinois, and Miami, Florida. The new stores are part of Whole Foods' strategy to expand in diverse markets, offering a mix of large flagship locations and smaller convenience-focused stores.
The St. Charles store, located in the historic downtown area, spans 36,234 square feet and stocks more than 650 locally sourced products from the Midwest. The store offers a variety of products, including organic, conventional, and Sourced for Good produce, artisan cheeses, fresh meat and poultry, sustainably wild caught or Responsibly Farmed seafood, prepared foods, a specialty bakery, and a curated grocery section. The store's grand opening was celebrated with the handing out of tote bags, coupons, and free gelato pops to shoppers.
Kristina Malicoat, the store team leader, expressed her excitement about the store opening. In addition, Whole Foods is supporting other local service groups in the St. Charles community. The city has historically used grocery store development incentives to attract businesses like Whole Foods, indicating an effort to integrate the store within the local economy and community framework. The St. Charles city council views grocery tax revenue as important for maintaining local public health and safety services.
The Miami location, situated in the midtown neighborhood, is significantly larger at 53,000 square feet, marking a major presence in that market. The store offers a variety of products and features Cuban-inspired beverages at the coffee bar and a large assortment of seafood sourced fresh from Florida fisheries.
Amazon, the parent company of Whole Foods, has unified teams across its grocery banners, which also include Amazon Fresh, Amazon Go, and Amazon.com, in early June. Amazon is No. 2 on Progressive Grocer's 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America.
Whole Foods is also donating an all-electric refrigerated van and surplus products to a nonprofit food relief organization, and is donating food to Miami-area nonprofits as part of its introduction to the neighborhood.
Whole Foods serves customers in more than 535 stores across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The latest Whole Foods store in St. Charles, Illinois, can be found at 300 S. 2 St. in the downtown district, while the store in Miami, Florida, is located in the greater Chicago area.
