Vibrant Graffiti Illuminates the Scene
In the heart of Eller, a once dreary underpass has been transformed into a vibrant and welcoming space, thanks to the creative touch of graffiti artists Tubuku. The redesign of the Eller-Süd S-Bahn station, funded by District Representation 8 to the tune of 42,000 euros, aims to serve as a model for other stations.
The collaboration between Tubuku, the city of Düsseldorf, BV 8, and Deutsche Bahn has breathed new life into the station, making it a new attraction in Eller. The underpass, now adorned with bright and friendly colors, features local motifs such as the Church of St. Gertrude, the old tram, and Castle Eller.
Mayor Thomas Geisel, District Mayor Wilhelm van Leyen, and Jürgen Hagendorn, 1st Chairman of the Retailers' Association, presented the newly redesigned public underpass at a site visit. Jürgen Hagendorn expressed his hope that the Eller residents and travelers would appreciate the redesigned station. He also mentioned that the advertising community has ensured that the S-Bahn station Eller-Süd has been free of graffiti for over 13 years.
Tubuku, a Krefeld design agency consisting of Alex Weigandt and Jaroslaw Masztalerz, led the redesign. The agency is known for its colorful, whimsical murals that invigorate urban spaces. The old underpass, previously considered not pleasant to linger in, is now a place where people enjoy walking through the tunnel.
