White dinner ambiance at the "Dîner en Blanc" event in Mitterteich
In the picturesque town of Mitterteich, Bavaria, an elegant pop-up picnic event known as Dîner en Blanc returned for the third time after a series of cancellations due to the coronavirus and bad weather.
Originated in Paris in 1988, Dîner en Blanc is a worldwide phenomenon that sees guests gathering at a secret location dressed in all-white attire for a night of dining and socialising under the stars. Mitterteich's local chapter, organised by the group "Gaudipower" from the association Gaudiwurm, brought this enchanting tradition to the town's city park on Sunday evening.
Guests were encouraged to bring their own food, drinks, dishes, and glasses for the event, creating a unique atmosphere of shared culinary delights. The offerings included sandwiches, salads, fried potatoes, cheese, sausage, coffee, cake, Sekt, champagne, water, and radler. The organisers decided against musical accompaniment to encourage conversation among guests, fostering a sense of camaraderie and connection.
The event, which started at 6 pm and lasted until 10 pm, attracted approximately 50 attendees, most of whom were women. Andrea Forte, one of the organisers, announced that there will be a repeat of the Dîner en Blanc next year.
Meanwhile, the town of Speinshart celebrated its 10th Citizens' Festival for two days, transforming into a party zone filled with laughter, music, and community spirit. The youngest residents honoured their mayor with a song, while great weather and a curious competition attracted the citizens of Speinshart and the surrounding area to the cloister village.
Elsewhere, the Freilandmuseum in Nabburg hosted the "Day of Oberpfälzer Folk Music," and Waldsassen's Citizens' Festival, a separate event, attracted thousands of visitors with a wide range of food, drinks, and an extensive music program.
However, the festivities were marred by an unfortunate incident when a 400-kilogram heavy hay bale hit an 18-year-old, an incident now under investigation by the police.
Mayor Albert Nickl expressed his satisfaction with the Citizens' Festival in Speinshart, and residents and external guests celebrated these events together, creating memorable moments in the heart of Bavaria. For those interested in future events, it's best to consult local event listings, social media, or the official Dîner en Blanc website or community pages specifically related to Mitterteich for precise and updated details.
More attendees might prefer a similar lifestyle event, such as a home-and-garden themed pop-up picnic, in Mitterteich next year, given the success of Dîner en Blanc. Organizers could encourage participants to bring their own decorations and plant-based dishes for a harmonious garden setting.
