Witten's Seed Library Event: Save Crop Diversity, October 6th
Witten's Seed Library, a collaborative project between the local library and conservation groups, invites the public to a seed collection event on Sunday, October 6th. The event aims to promote crop diversity by distributing open-pollinated seeds from various plants, including tomatoes, spinach, and wildflowers.
The Seed Library project, launched in 2023, allows residents to 'borrow' seeds in the spring and return a portion of the harvested seeds in the autumn. This year's event is a cooperation with Witten Nature Conservation Group - Biological Station e.V., VEN (Association for the Preservation of Crop Diversity), and Gühnemann-Kotten e.V. It will take place at the station garden in Ruhrstraße 117, located within a water protection area, encouraging visitors to use public transport or bicycles.
A free introductory workshop on seed harvesting will be held from 11 am to 12 pm, led by Brigitte Bornmann-Lemm of NABU Dortmund.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 6th, from 11 am to 1 pm, to participate in the seed collection event and workshop. By doing so, you'll be supporting the preservation of crop diversity and contributing to Witten's sustainable future.
